Mint Owl Studio - Happy Birthday

Hello everyone,

I'm here today with a birthday day card.  I think this iced coffee from the Coffee Craze stamp and die set is the one image that I just can't stop using.  You can colour these in so many ways and it's just too much fun.

I started out with a piece of watercolour paper and I die cut it with a stitched background die and with Picked Raspberry and Aged Mahogany distress inks I blended them on the paper in a gradient.  I then took a scalloped rectangle die and cut out the panel.  

I stamped out the iced coffee cup and coloured it in with my copics and the added glossy accents.  I then stamped the sentiment with Versafine Onyx black ink to the ink blended panel and adhered it to the card base. I took the iced coffee and popped it on of foam tape and added to the card base.

Trim the Tree - Mint Owl Studio

 Hello everyone,

I'm back with a Christmas card from our Trim the Tree stamp set and the Christmas Quilt Stencil.

As I was creating this card my daughter wanted to help so she fussy cut one of the boughs and I added it along with the others.  She will be tickled that it made it to a blog post!

I stamped and coloured in the ornament and pine boughs black in and coloured them in with my copics.  I fussy cut these out and for the ornament, I added glossy accents to make it shiny.

For the front panel, I used the Christmas Quilt Stencil and blended in Candied Apple and Lucky Clover distress inks.

To create the card base I die cut two panels and scored one of them on the top at about 1/4 down and adhered it to the front panel making this a shaped card.  

I cut out a smaller panel and stamped the sentiment with black ink and popped it up on foam tape.  I then added the boughs and ornament.

Happy Halloween!

Hello everyone,

As soon as I saw the newest Lawnscaping Challenge come out, I knew exactly what I was going to do. I took the plunge and I have my first attempt at a galaxy background.  I have to say that more than once this piece almost headed into the garbage can.  But I stuck it out and I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

I took the distress watercolour paper and did like most others who create these backgrounds and added the squeezed lemonade, picked raspberry and seedless preserves and added them in a random pattern on the paper.  Once that was blended in and you don't need to be perfect with this because you'll be covering it with the black soot.  So when it's all done you can only see the purple and the yellow becomes green.  I then added some white gesso I had in my stash and watered it down a bit and took a small pain brush and splattered it all over the panel.  With the distress inks I find the white doesn't stay white so I went over some of the splatters with a white gelly roll pen to brighten them up.

After I was done blending, there was still some left over black soot, so I took a bit of water and sprayed my craft mat and and with another piece of watercolour paper I did some ink smooching to create the moon.  I added some of the same ink colour around the edges once I cut it out with a circle die and adhered it to the card.

I cut out the tree border with LF black card stock and adhered one panel to the galaxy background and then took one of the slide on over dies and cut it out so she's flying to the moon.  I saved the little piece that comes out so I could add it to the card base so it had a cleaner look. I added fun foam to the back of the panel to give it stability and the added my penny to the back and then added foam tape to it and the added the little witch.  

I coloured in the witch with her broom and treat bag in with my copics (picture listed below of the colours) and used a white and silver gelly roll pen on her buckle and dots to her cheeks as well as some white highlights.  

And lastly I added the second tree panel with foam tape to the front of the card and heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder.

Gel Well Card Set

Hello everyone,

I am back with a couple of cards for you today.  If you read my last post, I'm trying to create more than one card so I made two.  I will soon work up to 4 or five soon!

I used the Get Well Critters and with white embossing powder, heat embossed the adorable Dino to created a background.  I then took distress ink and blended it around the edges and left the middle a bit lighter.

I used some black glitter spray and added splatters to the background for interest.  Then I cut out the banner from some ivory card dock and stamped the sentiment with black ink.  To finish off the card I added some enamel dots to the top right hand corner.

Here is the second card I created using the same techniques but with a different colour distress ink.  I also spritzed the card base with water droplets and wiped it away with a paper towel.  I did this for both cards.

I added the same banner and stamped the sentiment with black ink but instead of enamel dots to finish off the card, I used some natural twine that I added to the banner die cut.
